Blessed Trinity Catholic School Mourns the Passing of Pope Francis

Our Blessed Trinity Catholic School community joins Catholics around the world in mourning the death of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis.

The Diocese of St. Augustine has shared a touching statement from Bishop Erik Pohlmeier, reflecting on Pope Francis' life, ministry, and the legacy he leaves behind. Bishop Pohlmeier speaks with both sorrow and gratitude, remembering Pope Francis as a "joyful witness to the Gospel and a compassionate shepherd to the world."

Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis inspired the Church and all people of goodwill with his humility, deep love for the Gospel, and unwavering commitment to those on the margins of society. His 2013 apostolic exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium), remains a powerful guide for sharing our faith joyfully and authentically. Bishop Pohlmeier reminds us of Pope Francis’ beautiful teaching that salvation frees us from "sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness," words that are especially meaningful in today's world.

Pope Francis was a true shepherd for all, reaching beyond the Catholic Church to touch the hearts of people everywhere. He spoke boldly for the poor, the unborn, the immigrant, and those feeling isolated or forgotten. His message was simple but profound: every person is loved by God and worthy of dignity.

As we mourn his passing, we remain deeply grateful for the life and leadership of Pope Francis. We pray that his example will continue to inspire us to live with faith, serve with love, and always seek first the kingdom of God.

We invite all members of our Blessed Trinity Catholic School community to join us in praying for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. Let us also pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as our cardinals begin the important work of selecting the next Pope.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
